We consider non-negative solutions of the fast diffusion equation ut = ∆u m with m ∈ (0, 1), in the Euclidean space R d , d ≥ 3, and study the asymptotic behavior of a natural class of solutions, in the limit corresponding to t → ∞ for m ≥ mc = (d−2)/d, or as t approaches the extinction time when m < mc. For a class of initial data we prove that the solution converges with a polynomial rate to ...
متن کاملLong Time Asymptotics for Fast Diffusion via Dynamical Systems Methods
For the fast diffusion equation in the mass preserving parameter range, we obtain sharp asymptotic convergence rates to the Barenblatt solution with respect to the relative L∞ norm from spectral gaps by establishing a nonlinear differentiable semiflow in Hölder spaces on a Riemannian manifold called cigar manifold. On this manifold, the equation becomes uniformly parabolic. It is possible to ob...
متن کاملA posteriori $ L^2(L^2)$-error estimates with the new version of streamline diffusion method for the wave equation
In this article, we study the new streamline diffusion finite element for treating the linear second order hyperbolic initial-boundary value problem. We prove a posteriori $ L^2(L^2)$ and error estimates for this method under minimal regularity hypothesis. Test problem of an application of the wave equation in the laser is presented to verify the efficiency and accuracy of the method.
متن کاملFine Asymptotics near Extinction and Elliptic Harnack Inequalities for the Fast Diffusion Equation
We consider the Fast Diffusion Equation (FDE) ut = ∆u in a bounded smooth domain Ω ⊂ R with homogeneous Dirichlet conditions; the exponent range is ms = (d − 2)+/(d + 2) < m < 1. It is known that bounded positive solutions u(t, x) of such problem extinguish in a finite time T , and also that such solutions approach a separate variable solution u(t, x) ∼ (T − t)1/(1−m)f(x), as t → T−. We show th...
متن کاملFine Asymptotics for Fast Diffusion Equations
We investigate the large–time asymptotics of fast diffusion equations, ut = ∆um, where 0 < m < 1. We calculate convergence to Barenblatt profiles with algebraic rates in the exponent interval (d − 2)/d < m < (d − 1)/d in dimensions d ≥ 2. We cover in this way the gap still existing in the literature concerning the rates of approach to a Barenblatt profile, which have been recently obtained for ...
